树干直立，分枝角度小，树冠规整呈卵圆形，长势旺盛。叶片掌状5裂，比一般元宝枫叶片肥厚、大，景观效果独特。当年生新梢桔红色，成熟叶绿色，变色期中等，秋季叶片转橙红色，可园林孤植、列植、片栽或山地丛植，是优良的秋季彩叶树种。可做园林绿化观赏，制茶，木材坚硬，为优良的建筑、家具、雕刻、细木工用材。树皮纤维可造纸及代用棉。

适种范围

适宜温带和北温带地区，我国东北、华北、西北、华东等地均可栽培。
