小乔木，树冠卵圆形，树型向上，树干红褐色。叶长椭圆形，革质，开展叶片红绿色，叶缘锯齿状。花大，红紫色，浅杯状，重瓣，花瓣椭圆形；花萼深红色，翻卷，尖三角形，被毛，雄蕊30-40枚，高于花柱，花药黄色，花丝浅红色，花柱5，基部被毛。果实形状为扁球体，花萼有时宿存，挂果期长，至来年3月。以春季重瓣大型红紫色花朵、秋冬红果为主要观赏特征。

Variety characteristics

Small tree with oval crown, upward tree shape and reddish-brown trunk. Leaves long elliptic and leathery, spreading leaf blade red-green, leaf margin serrated. Flowers large, reddish purple, shallowly cup-shaped, double, petals elliptic; calyx crimson, revolute, pointed triangular, indumentum, stamens 30-40, calyx higher than style; anthers yellow, filaments light red, style 5, base hairy. Fruit shape is oblate, the calyx sometimes persistent, and the fruit hanging period is long until March of the next year. The main ornamental characteristics are large red-purple flowers with double petals in spring and red fruits in autumn and winter.
